Who We Are
Affordable Retirement Abroad was founded by William (“Bill”) Hare, who brings over 40 years of experience in the financial services industry. Bill’s passion for this project stems from his own extensive international experience, having lived abroad for more than a dozen years throughout Latin America and Europe. He has personally visited or lived in approximately half of the affordable retirement destinations featured on our website.
As Bill approached retirement age, he witnessed many friends and family facing bleak retirement prospects with little more than their Social Security benefits to sustain them. This reality is stark: approximately 40% of American retirees rely on Social Security for 90% or more of their income. Despite this widespread need, Bill discovered there was no comprehensive resource that provided lower-income retirees with everything they needed to know about affordable retirement abroad—all in one place.
This gap in resources for everyday Americans inspired the creation of Affordable Retirement Abroad—a platform specifically designed to help those living on fixed incomes discover how their retirement dollars can stretch significantly further in carefully selected international destinations.
